Specialized employment related activities and services include:
- Accessibility to the self-service employment resource area for telephone, fax, resource material, computer use, etc.
- Provide Youth clients with information on employment services provided by the project as well as other service providers in the community
- Conduct needs assessments of clients to identify employment needs
- Provide employment counseling to address employment barriers and needs
- Assist Youth clients in developing a mutually agreed upon Return to Work Action Plan (RTWAP)
- Refer Youth clients to appropriate employment interventions or services as determined in their RTWAP
- Assist eligible Youth clients with their applications for Service Canada Employment Benefit programs
- Case manage all Youth clients with a RTWAP,
- Job Coach /Job Developer assist clients to secure and maintain ongoing, appropriate employment.
OTHER ONSITE SERVICES INCLUDE
Job search activities will provide one-to-one individualized sessions, and/or group sessions focusing on job search skills, with modules consisting of, but not limited to:
- Identifying employability skills
- Learning how to market employability skills
- Preparing effective resume, cover letters, calling cards, and thank-you letters.
- Interview coaching and cold calling techniques
- Current labour market information
- Access to job leads and information on various employment
The service will provide an individualized approach for clients assessed. The intervention can be spread over a 7-10 day period that meets the youth clients' specific job search needs. Each intervention will cover 4 phases:
- Needs assessment and job search information (intake, assessment, action plan development, resume writing)
- Provision and encouragement (resume, cover letter, photocopies, review of job leads etc.)
- Performance and appraisal (job leads, resume and cover letter changes, evaluation of current job search activity)
- Job search follow-up (remedial brief interventions during clients’ completion of program to 12 week follow-up)
Youth Employment Resource Centre advises participants of the availability of wage subsidy programs as an individual marketing tool to assist them in obtaining employment.
When part of the participant’s Return to Work Action Plan includes training and the participant is eligible to be considered for funding under Skills Development Employment Benefits (SDEB), Youth Employment Resource Centre will assist the participant with the completion of Service Canada’s SDEB application package.
